We can't let QLD become a laggard on clean energy
I’m one of your constituents and I’m writing to express my concern that Queensland is becoming a laggard on renewable energy. Australia’s recent bushfire crisis is just one example of why we need to transition our energy system away from old, polluting coal-fired power stations – and there’s nowhere better to build the next generation of energy than here in Queensland. But last year, investment in large-scale renewable energy projects collapsed in the Sunshine State, meaning that unless something changes reaching the goal of 50% renewable energy by 2030 will be an uphill battle. The community group Solar Citizens keeps track of the Queensland Government’s progress towards their renewable energy commitments, and in their most recent report card the Government barely scrapes a pass – namely because there’s no concrete plan for how the Government will deliver on their 50% renewable energy by 2030 target. Even more disappointingly, the Queensland Liberal National Party has not even committed to the 50% target. You can read Solar Citizens’ report card here: https://www.solarcitizens.org.au/qld_renewable_progress_facts I’m calling on you to advocate for action that will again jump-start large-scale investment in Queensland – protecting thousands of jobs and unlocking billions of potential investment in the regions.
