With a handful of large energy companies dominating the market
we can not trust electricity retailers
to offer solar owners a fair price for solar power
Solar power
is cleaner
than fossil fuels. Once installed, solar power produces no harmful C02 or other pollution. This value is not reflected in the price it receives
Solar systems
produce more electricity when we need it most.
"
Distributed" solar like residential rooftop solar only uses a fraction of the "network"
compared to large scale generation
.
Rooftop solar power is also
more efficient to distribute.
Up to 10% or more of electricity from large fossil fuel generation is lost in transporting the electricity.
Solar power can help reduce power bills for non-solar consumers.
Because of all of the points above, solar is more efficient. If the cost savings were passed on across the grid all consumers would save money.
Subject:
Don't scrap the minimum price for solar in South Australia
Dear Commissioner, I urge you to retain the minimum price for solar (or R-FiT) in South Australia. The evidence from other States shows that scrapping the minimum rate will leave solar owners worse off. It will only be large retailers that will benefit. At the moment the overwhelming majority of solar customers are provided the minimum by their electricity retailers. ECOSA should in fact be undertaking an inquiry into a FAIR price for solar that takes account of the social and environmental benefits of distributed energy like solar. [Add your comments here]
