I’m writing to urge you to act at this critical moment to protect renters from rising energy costs.

Renters are already being hit hard — and forecasts show worse is yet to come. With global instability driving fuel price volatility, households are being left exposed to price shocks they cannot control.

This is a moment for leadership.

I understand Energy Ministers will soon meet through the Energy and Climate Ministers’ Council (ECMC). I urge you to use your voice in that forum — including calling for an extraordinary meeting if needed — to prioritise action to support renters.

There is a practical solution ready right now.

Solar Citizens has proposed that the Federal Government include in the May 12 Budget a targeted 5-year accelerated depreciation incentive for landlords to install solar, batteries and energy upgrades in rental homes

This would:
- unlock rooftop solar for renters
- deliver around $1,400 per year in bill savings
- protect households from future price shocks
- reduce exposure to global fuel volatility
- be revenue-neutral over time, unlocking private investment
